Composition and ingredients
For dry food, we use quality protein from chicken, salmon or lamb meal as well as eggs.
Petstory foods are fortified with vitamins and minerals and contain omega-3 and omega-6 for healthy coat and skin. They are free of artificial colours or flavours and without meat by-product meal. They contain dried beet pulp, pumpkin and ginger for optimal digestion as well as a blend of antioxidants to support a healthy immune system. Plus, we use whole grains in our formulas. Whole grains, being minimally processed ingredients, are a good source of vitamins and dietary fibre. Dietary fibres play an important role in modulating intestinal transit, influencing immune function and the profile of intestinal microbiota.
In short, our foods are designed to provide a balanced diet that promotes healthy development and good health.
Animal meal is a protein concentrate. The digestibility of meat meal is similar to that of fresh meat for our pets. The chicken, salmon, and lamb meals we use in our dry formulas are all high quality proteins containing no meat by-products.
Chicken meal is a source of protein, omega-6, glucosamine, chondroitin, calcium and phosphorus provided by the meat, skin, bones and cartilage of cooked and ground chicken. It is a lean protein that contains the essential amino acids that pets need.
Salmon meal is a source of protein, omega-3s and omega-6s from the cleaned, dried and ground tissues of whole undecomposed salmon or pieces of salmon.
Lamb meal is a source of protein from cooked and ground lamb tissue.
Our dry and wet foods contain no meat by-products. Only some of our treats contain it. Meat by-products are the parts of an animal other than its muscle tissue, including internal organs, such as organ meats that are rich in nutrients. They have a high content of protein and amino acids that help build and maintain muscles in our pets.
When talking about meat by-products in the pet food industry, this does not include animal parts such as feathers, teeth or beaks.
Yes, we can provide nutrient analysis for all our formulas. Write to us at info@petstory.ca to get these details.
Storage
For dry products, the expiry date is on the back of the packaging and for cans, it is on the bottom of the can
For optimal freshness, store Petstory product in a resealable bag or airtight container in a dry environment at room temperature out of direct sunlight. Extreme cold, heat and humidity are not conducive to product shelf life or performance.
Give dry food and treats to your pet before the expiry date indicated on the bag.
Wet food should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If a can is not used whole, it should be kept in the refrigerator for a maximum of 48-72 hours.
Freezing our products is not recommended. Only wet food should be placed in the fridge (not freezer) once opened.
We do not recommend heating wet food. It is best served at room temperature. By heating the food, you risk breaking down certain nutrients and burning your pet.
Our bags of dry food are equipped with Velcro to keep the the kibble fresh for as long as possible, i.e. until the expiry date indicated on the bag. Remember to keep the bag in a dry environment at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Extreme cold, heat and humidity are not conducive to product shelf life or performance.
Choose Petstory for your furry friend
Try to make a gradual transition when changing food for your pet (regardless of brand). A smooth transition over several days helps to avoid digestive disorders.
Start with a mix of 75% old food and 25% Petstory food. Then, over 7-10 days, gradually increase the proportion of Petstory until the transition is complete. This way your furry friend’s digestive system will be able to gradually get used to its new diet.
Amounts vary depending on your pet's life stage, activity level and breed size. Start by feeding it the amount recommended on the back of the bag in our daily portion guide, then adjust the amount according to your pet’s needs.
It all depends on the type of treat you are giving. You can use the recommended portion guide provided on our packaging. Just remember that treats should not exceed 10% of your pet's total daily caloric intake.
